As long ago as the 1960’s PEMA had already begun to introduce contract farming. Contract Farming offers a guarantee for both sides: the producer is ensured of a consistent, reliable quality and promises to accept a definite amount of grain for a fair price. This also ensures the best path to sustainable farming. A number of the farmers who work with PEMA have already completed the change to organic, or bio, farming. Our organic rye is produced by farmers who are members of the Erzeugergemeinschaft Ökofranken eG.

As a community of organic farmers, they are all members of the associations Bioland or Demeter and thereby dedicated to preserving the cultural landscape through their diverse ecological-economic methods. Since 1976, The cultivation association Bioland has worked towards the long-term maintenance of soil fertility. The yield achieved from organic farming is smaller than from our regular contract farming, which explains why our organic products are a little bit more expensive than our other conventional PEMA products.
